Each controller also has two labels on its rear panel: one shows the MAC address of the
controller and one shows the battery service date (see Figure 2-5).
The RAID controllers provide the following features and capabilities:
• Support for RAID levels 0, 1, 3, and 5
• Dual-porting for failover
• Support for 2 or 4 host ports per controller (a 3992 controller supports two ports and
a 3994 controller supports four ports)
• 256 MB of cache memory with 7-day battery backup or 1 GB of cache memory with
3-day battery backup
• Array sizes up to 112 drives
• Data transfer rates up to 200 MB/s
The RAID controller has the following connectors (see Figure 2-5):
• 2 or 4 Fibre Channel host ports (depending on the controller installed) with small
form-factor pluggable transceivers (SFPs)
• 2 Ethernet host ports: the first is configured for out-of-band management, the other
is reserved for optional network reporting of technical problems with the array
• 1 Fibre Channel drive expansion port
• 1 RS-232 diagnostic port
The RAID controller has the following LED indicators:
• Host 1 link and speed LEDs
• Host 2 link and speed LEDs
• Host 3 and 4 link and speed LEDs (when using 3994 controllers)
• Battery charging/charged LED
• Cache active LED
•Fault LED
• Expansion loop LED
• Expansion loop bypass LED
